Maison Artemisia, Dinsmoor & Hotel Matilda 5 Year Anniversary Party
I just returned home from an amazing work/ play trip in Mexico and thought I would share. The trip started out in Mexico City, which was super exciting to see because in the past I’ve only traveled through the airport and never had the chance to see the city. We flew in on Wednesday and took in as many sights as possible in two days. Obviously that is not a lot for such a huge city but I’d say we made good use of our time. We stayed at the Downtown Hotel in Mexico city, which I would highly recommend.
Thursday night I had a couple of gigs. The first was at a smaller craft cocktail lounge called Maison Artemisia. The lounge was really cool. It had a nice little crowd and I had fun playing some more laid back, lounge tunes as oppose to a club set. Later on Thursday night after my gig at Maison Artemisia I headed over to Dinsmoor to play my second gig. Dinsmoor is a private club located in Polanco. I didn’t know what to expect as they don’t have a website but as soon as we pulled up in the uber and I saw a large line out the door, I knew it was going to be a good time. Once inside and set up I played an all house set from 2-4am and it was a blast.
The next morning, super early running on only a couple hours of sleep we drove to San Miguel De Allende for the main event, Hotel Matilda’s 5 Year Anniversary Party. The party was one of the most fun, elaborate parties I have ever attended or dj'd for that matter. The entire hotel was transformed with intelligent lighting, incredible sound system and disco balls throughout. Sculptures and paintings from local artists were also brought in to enhance the already decadant ambiance. I played back and forth with a band called Los Rumberos who is a group of 4 guys who absolutely killed it! Hotel Matilda even had a firework show at midnight. The next morning Matilda had a special brunch to keep the party going and lucky for us Chef Enrique Olvera and David Kinch were in in the house and in charge of the food.
This was definitely a trip I will never forget and I’m extremely grateful to Hotel Matilda for having me down and taking such good care of me and friends. Special thanks to Sandra, Bruce and Gina at Hotel Matilda and also setting me up with such an incredible welcome bag. Also big thanks to Jorge for setting me up with all the fun gigs in Mexico City, much appreciated!
Until next time,
